Cohort Programs
The Department of Administrative Leadership offers graduate students the opportunity to pursue a master's degree and/or DPI licensure in an off-campus accelerated cohort model. Students may pursue:
- A master's degree in Educational Administration, and/or
- DPI licensing credentials through a non-degree post-master's program.
Many candidates have successfully earned administrative licenses through sustained study with their peers in classes taught by UWM's nationally recognized faculty in convenient locations across Southeastern Wisconsin. The cohort model programs are offered for all licenses including the Superintendency. The two-year sequence of courses includes all requirements for licensure as a School Principal or Director of Instruction. Additional courses required for the Director of Special Education and Pupil Services, School Business Administrator, Superintendent, and Teacher Leadership programs are available on the UWM campus. Most candidates finish their programs within two years.
Locations
There are currently two locations for the two-year accelerated programs: Metro Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay.
Metro Milwaukee
The UWM Department of Administrative Leadership is committed to the development of educational leaders, particularly for service in urban metropolitan areas. We believe that excellent educational leaders nurture leadership among others in the school community; create positive work environments for staff, students and parents; and contribute to the improvement of teaching and learning. This leadership development program prepares leaders who are change agents, who are adept at using teams, who are able to diagnose current conditions, who understand how complex systems work, who are able to instill a shared vision, and who can create educational alternatives so students can attain high standards.
This cohort meets at the Bryant & Stratton campus on W. Potter Road in Wauwatosa, near the Mayfair Mall. Classes typically meet one night per week during the school year and students take up to six credits per semester. Class times differ in the summer but are typically offered in six-week sessions with extended afternoon or morning sessions. This location serves students from the greater Metropolitan area, including Western and Southern Milwaukee suburbs.
UW-Green Bay
The UWM Department of Administrative Leadership, in cooperation with UW-Green Bay, is committed to the development of educational leaders, particularly for service in diverse settings.
This cohort meets at the UW-Green Bay campus in Green Bay, WI and is offered through a collaborative agreement with the Department of Education at UW-Green Bay. UWM regular faculty travel to Green Bay to teach the courses and students typically enroll in 3-6 credits taught by UW-Green Bay faculty. Typically, these classes meet one night per week. In addition, the UWM Urban Education doctoral program is offered in a cohort model at the UW-Green Bay location.
