About the Department of Curriculum and Instruction
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is committed to the preparation, development and education of pre-service and in-service teachers for grades PreK-12. These professionals typically serve children and youth in school settings.
The Faculty believe that our department has a responsibility to prepare, develop and evaluate professional teachers who:
- Value children/youth and families as the center of teaching.
- Value and promote equity and inclusion of diverse learners in the schools.
- Are responsive, interactive teachers who base their teaching on research that is grounded in sound pedagogical content knowledge.
- Practice cooperation and collaboration between and among teachers, support staff, paraprofessionals, families, community agencies, and school administration and the like.
- Demonstrate care and a commitment to diverse student learners, who advocate for children and youth, who contribute to the cognitive development of all youth, and who value diversity as an asset.
- Promote reform by being actively involved in the process of change and who advocate for improved education.
- Utilize reflection and self assessment as a professional attribute, and who focus on improving their practice through various forms of inquiry over the course of their career.
