PRAXIS Test Series
There are two professional exams related to certification that you need to know about and pass.

PRAXIS I (PPST: Pre-Professional Skills Test)
The PRAXIS I is designed to measure basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
You must have passing scores for all three parts in order to apply to the program. The tests are available in two formats: paper-based or computer-based. Test scores should be submitted along with your application material or sent to UWM directly from Education Testing Services using recipient code 1473.

When should I take the PRAXIS I (PPST)? The PRAXIS I should be taken your freshmen year. If you are a transfer student, you should take the PRAXIS I as soon as you have declared a teaching certification major. Scores must be posted on your transcript at the time of application or the official score sheet must be submitted with your application.

How do I ensure my PRAXIS scores get posted on my transcript? A copy of your scores must be sent to UWM by Education Testing Services. Your scores will be sent only if you indicate UWM as a recipient using code 1473.

PRAXIS II (Subject Assessment Test)
The PRAXIS II measures knowledge of specific subjects that K-12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. The PRAXIS II tests are only available in a paper-based format.

 Is the PRAXIS II required?
Yes. Passing scores on the PRAXIS II must be reflected on your UWM transcript in order to be approved for student teaching. Students requesting a fall placement are cleared for student teaching in March. Students requesting a spring placement are cleared for student teaching in July.
