English as a Second Language Program
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is available for students who plan to teach English to non-native speakers from birth to age 21, in PK through 12th grade.
Students may select the Early Childhood through Adolescence ESL major for grades PK through 12. The ESL minor will result in an additional certification at the same level as your initial license. Students must already have or be in process of completing certification requirements for one of the following programs:
Undergraduate Degree OfferedBachelor's degree leading to licensure to teach ESL.
Post-Baccalaureate CertificationStudents who already have a bachelor's degree and are interested in becoming licensed teachers in the state of
Wisconsin may earn post-baccalaureate teacher certification in ESL.
Additional LicensureStudents at this level of certification may add the following licenses while pursuing an ESL licensure as their initial certification:
