Dept. of Curriculum and Instruction Employment

Faculty & Teaching Academic Staff Positions

Part-time Instructors & Student Teaching Supervisors (continuous):

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction is building a pool of potential part-time instructors and student teaching supervisors for use when needs arise. Part-time instructors and student teaching supervisors are employed within the department every semester, with needs shifting.

Part-time instructors may be employed to teach an undergraduate course or to supervise student teachers. Employment is granted via contract on a semester-to-semester basis, dependent upon programmatic needs and on continued satisfactory performance on the job.

Required qualifications:

• Master’s degree in education or a closely-related field
• three years of classroom teaching experience

Preferred qualifications:

• varied and extended experience in school settings
• experience in demographically diverse and/or urban settings
• experience in leadership and/or adult education
(e.g. leading workshops or learning teams, etc.)

Part-time instructors and student teaching supervisors are most often needed in the Early Childhood (birth to age eight) and Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence (age 6-12) programs.  Secondary (Early Adolescence though Adolescence) and ESL/Bilingual teachers are encouraged to apply as well.

We are interested in building a pool of instructors who can cover methods courses (literacy, language arts, science, math, and/or social studies), as well as more general and specialty topics (e.g., introductory courses, seminars, classroom management, skills for working with infants/toddlers or families). Please consult the UWM Undergraduate Catalog for a complete list of courses taught within the department.

Individuals interested in being considered for the pool should submit the following:

• a detailed resume, relating education and professional experiences
• a statement describing your approach to teaching children/youth and any particular curricular interests;
• a statement describing why you are interested in part-time teaching or supervision and what you would hope to accomplish with students; and
• a statement addressing what courses you believe you could teach and when you are available for teaching (e.g., daytime courses, evening courses only, etc.)

All materials should be submitted to:
