offers an optional submajor in Community-Based Organizations Policy & Leadership. This is the only undergraduate degree focusing on nonprofits in Wisconsin!

Through this submajor you will focus on diversity and urban issues. With diverse and experienced peers and faculty you will explore:
  • Race and Public Policy
  • Causes of Inequality
  • Community Development
  • Social Action and Social Change 
You will also gain practical skills in:

  • Budgeting
  • Marketing
  • Management
  • Policy Analysis
Courses are offered online, blended, and during the evening to better fit in the schedules of working students.

Prior Professional ExperienceSince Community Education students are adults who have been working, reading and acquiring skills equivalent to those provided in a conventional classroom setting, it is possible to earn credits good towards lower division electives by demonstration of competencies. The course, Ed Pol 100 - Community Education I, offers students the opportunity to analyze their prior learning and earn credits for their experiences. The process of awarding PPEE credits is through in- class writing that is evaluated by the departmental faculty.

Submajor Requirements
LOWER DIVISION COURSEWORK: 81 Credits

I. General Education Requirements (GER) 24 credits
UWM Milestones:

English Competency
: Placement level of 4 or higher on the English Proficiency Test or complete English 102 or an equivalent course with a "C" or better.

Math Competency
: Placement level of 30 or higher on the Math Placement Test, or complete Math 105, 106, 175, or an equivalent course with a "C" or better.

UWM Cultural Diversity
: Complete 3 units from GER list in the current Schedule of Classes.

Foreign Language
: Two semesters of one foreign language, or two years of one foreign language in high school.
GER Distribution: 24 credits
