Frequently Asked Questions


Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions from past prospective students regarding the Learning and Development M.S. program.

1) Does the program emphasize theory or practice?
The program focuses on research skills as they apply to education and training, throughout the lifespan and in a broad range of settings.

2) Can I apply on the Web?
Yes! Applicants are encouraged to complete the Graduate School Application Form online at www.gradschool.uwm.edu

3) Where are the instructions for applying to the Learning and Development M.S. Program?

Click on the Application Process link that can be found in the right margin. Please note that certain materials must be received by the Graduate School, while others are sent directly to the Department of Educational Psychology.

4) I have applied for graduate study and would like to know the status of my application. Whom do I contact?
Please watch your mailbox for information on monitoring your application status online.

5) Are letters of recommendation required?
No, letters of recommendation are not required for the M.S. program.

6) What would I write in my statement of purpose?
The statement should outline your academic and professional background, declaration of Area of Concentration (Learning and Development), as well as specific research interests and/or goals for the M.S. program. This statement should be submitted to both the Graduate School and the Department of Educational Psychology (see Application Process for more information) and must be complete and thorough as it provides information that is central to the admission decision. The same statement can be used for both the Graduate School's "Reasons for Graduate Study" statement and the one you send to the department.

8) I know that your department has rolling admissions, but are there deadlines I should be aware of for applying to the Graduate School?
