Ed.S. School Psychology Application Process
Below you will find the application process for the Education Specialization (Ed.S.) in School Psychology. Please note that the application deadline for Fall 2010 is January 4, 2010. Selected applicants will be invited for a phone or in person interview on February 3, 2010. We typically invite approximately 20 to 25 applicants for an interview. Please pay attention to specific dates, as some materials are due earlier than others. In addition, please note that certain materials must be received by the Graduate School, while others are sent directly to the Department of Educational Psychology.
The application process consists of two parts: A) Applying to the UWM Graduate School and B) Applying to the Department of Educational Psychology.
A. To the UWM Graduate School:
1) Applicants are encouraged to complete the Graduate School Application Form online at www.gradschool.uwm.edu. Click on "Apply for Admission" and follow the instructions.
* Note: The Graduate School recommends applying one year in advance.
2) One copy of official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate credits (if any) the applicant has accumulated to date at other institutions of higher learning must be submitted to the Graduate School. It is the applicant's responsibility to arrange for this to be done.
Admission applications cannot be processed until all official transcripts have been received by the Graduate School.
3) Finally, the Graduate School application also requires a "Statement of Reasons for Graduate Study." Applicants are urged to take special care in describing long range goals, how they see themselves fitting into UWM's program, which has an urban and multicultural emphasis, and relating experiences which influenced their decision to pursue a career in school psychology.

B. To the Department of Educational Psychology (School Psychology Specialization):
1) Have letters of recommendation sent to the Department of Educational Psychology by January 5, 2009. Recommendations must be forwarded directly by the writers to the Educational Psychology Program-School Psychology Education Specialization (Ed.S.). Please submit letters of recommendation from a minimum of three appropriate persons that can comment meaningfully and knowledgeably on the likelihood that you can successfully complete an advanced scholarly program of study for the Ed.S. degree.
2) If you have taken the GREs, request that official copies of your GRE scores be sent to the Department of Educational Psychology (Institution Code 1473). GRE scores are NOT required for the Ed.S. program in School Psychology. If you wish to obtain a copy of scores from a previous administration of the GRE, you can request scores by contacting Educational Testing Services at 1-888-GRE-SCORE.
Be sure to indicate you are applying for the 'School Psychology' specialization. It is helpful if the majority of references are written by college/university faculty. At least one reference must be from an academic source. In any case, select people who can comment with confidence on your academic qualifications. Be sure references are as recent as possible, ordinarily no more than one year old.
