The School of Education, Department of Exceptional Education as an established ASL-LLC within
Sandburg Residence Hall. The ASL-LLC is a place where students can learn, study, and grow as part of a small community. Students will enjoy a sense of community as you interact with a group of students and professors in American Sign Language courses. The ASL-LLC is a community for students living in Sandburg Hall and is designed to help you feel connected to your fellow students, your instructors, and UW-Milwaukee.
PurposeThe purpose of the ASL-LLC is to establish a community for students who know or are learning American Sign Language (ASL). Students within the ASL-LLC will develop a network of peers that communicate with a common language, ASL, and a community that will gain understanding and respect for ASL, Deaf history, and Deaf culture.
The ASL-LLC is
- A community for deaf and hard of hearing students
- A community for students learning ASL
- A community where deaf and hard of hearing students can communicate with peers
- A community where students have a network of peers, where they can use their second language acquisition skills
- A community that understands and respects ASL and Deaf culture
- Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Students who know (CODA's/SODA's) or who want to learn ASL
- Students majoring or minoring in the ASL Studies Program
- Students majoring in the Interpreter Training Program
- Students majoring in the ASL Teacher Education Program
Fall Semester: ASL I and Deaf History
Spring Semester: ASL II and Deaf Culture
