Praxis/PPST Information

The Praxis I test measures basic academic skills. The Praxis II test measures general and subject-specific knowledge and teaching skills.

Praxis IPre-Professionals Skills Assessment (PPST) is designed to measure basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. The reading, writing and mathematics assessments are available in a paper-based or computer based format.

The PRAXIS I should be taken about six months prior to applying for admission to the Department of Exceptional Education. Passing scores on all three sections must be reflected on your UWM transcript in order to be considered for admission to some of the Exceptional Education programs.

Passing scores are: Reading: 175 or higher
Writing: 174 or higher
Math: 173 or higher

If you have difficulty passing any portion of the Praxis I, please contact your advisor prior to taking the test a third time.

Praxis IIThis is a subject assessment test the measures knowledge of educators in specific subjects for the K-12 setting. As well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge.

The PRAXIS II should be taken about the end of Spring I or six months prior to student teaching semester of your professional course sequence. Passing scores must be reflected on your UWM transcript in order to be approved for student teaching.
