Festus Obiakor Professor
Department of Exceptional Education Festus Obiakor came to UWM because of the university's mission to empower the community. His research interests include self-concept development of at-risk learners, African American learners/urban learners, multicultural/psychology and special education, crisis intervention/behavior management, educational reform/program evaluation, and international education.
Obiakor is a nationally and internationally known scholar and consular who has written more than 150 academic publications, including several books, and has published four volumes of poetry. He is on the editorial boards of many scholarly publications, and currently serves as co-executive editor of Multicultural Learning and Teachings, co-editor of Multiple Voices, and associate editor of Teacher Education and Special Education. Obiakor holds an M.Ed. degree in special education from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth. He received his M.A. in instructional psychology and his Ph.D. in special education from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces.
