The MC-EA (Collaborative Teacher Education Program for Urban Communities)

UWM's teacher education program is founded on the recognition that preparing teachers for urban schools is qualitatively different from preparing teachers for any school. If new urban teachers are to be well prepared, they, as well as the faculty who teach them, will need to work collaboratively with fellow professionals, family members, and community people to be effective.

Cornerstones of the program include a sound understanding of the urban context; the acceptance of all children, including those with disabilities; pedagogical and content expertise; and the need for teachers to be thoughtful, inquiring professionals who continue to develop throughout their careers.

Certification areas at the undergraduate level include regular education grades 1-8; at the post baccalarate level certification includes early childhood, special education, and grades 1-8 in special and regular education. For additional information, click here.
