The SPARK Early Literacy Program, a partnership involving UWM, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee , the Milwaukee Public Schools, and AmeriCorps, will be hiring 50-60 students to provide reading instruction to students in grades K-3 each year. Part-time positions, with varying levels of time commitment, are available.

The program provides literacy tutoring to elementary school students throughout Milwaukee.  The program is currently being implemented at ten club/school sites.  Literacy Instructors will work in teams of eight to provide one-on-one and/or small group reading instruction to students in grades K-3 during both school and club hours for 10 months. This is a paid position; tutors will receive a bi-weekly living stipend (not a paycheck).

Tutors are AmeriCorps State members who will be compensated with a living allowance (not a paycheck), and an education award (upon completion of their term).

Hours are flexible, but require a minimum average of 13 hours/week.
