TB tests and Criminal Background Check Questions

What type of Tuberculin (TB) screening do I need?A TB skin test is fine for the majority of students. However, if you have ever tested positive for TB or received an immunization against TB, you will need to have a chest x-ray and provide proof of a doctor’s review of the x-ray saying you are TB free.

Where can I get a TB test?
A TB test can be obtained through your health care provider or the Norris Health Center on campus offers TB tests to students at a discounted rate. To make an appointment at Norris, please call 414-229-4716. A chest x-ray will take significantly longer and is not available through Norris Health Center.

How long do TB tests take?
TB skin tests take two-three days before they can be read.

I’ve been informed that I need a Criminal Background Check (CBC). How do I do this and is there a cost involved?

CBCs are processed through the Field Experience Office and cost $10. Check or money order only may be made out to UWM. Please turn this in at least 30 days before your field experience begins.

Criminal Background Check Application

I have infractions in my background. What can I do to pass the CBC?
Put everything down on your CBC. Even if the infractions occurred while you were a juvenile, they may not be expunged from your adult record and should be included on your application. Failure to include any infraction will be grounds for immediate rejection of your application. You will receive a letter from Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) within 30 days if you cannot be cleared.

How will I find out if I passed my background check? No news is good news. Only those who did not pass the background check will be notified via letter from MPS.Return To Top
