SOIS Statement on Diversity

The UW-Milwaukee, School of Information Studies (SOIS) acknowledges and promotes the educational benefits that flow from having a diverse staff and student body that includes but is not limited to students and workers of differing race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, disability, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. The forgoing list is not meant to be exhaustive, as SOIS is respectful that broader approaches to the concept of diversity may benefit the SOIS community. PhD Fellowship Opportunity

PhD recruitment program funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Services Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program. Supports 6 full-time doctoral students with research interests that address barriers to information access.
SOIS Towards A Diverse Profession Scholarship
SOIS diversity scholarship awarded to students accepted into the MLIS degree program.
Diversity Scholarships/Fellowships
SOIS takes part in and supports students through the following Diversity Scholarships/Fellowships
Advanced Opportunity Program Fellowships
UWM’s fellowship program that assists members of underrepresented groups and other disadvantaged students.
Spectrum Scholarships

SOIS offers matching funding to Spectrum Scholarship recipients. The Spectrum Scholarship Program is ALA's national diversity and recruitment effort designed to address the specific issue of under-representation of critically needed ethnic librarians within the profession.
LIS Access Midwest Program (LAMP)

SOIS is a participant in LAMP - the regional network of academic libraries and information science schools dedicated to promoting careers within the field of library and information science (LIS).
