Dick Kawooya, Visiting Scholar, is currently a doctoral candidate at the School of Information Studies, Univ. of Tennessee. He is broadly interested in informal sectors-related Information Policy Research activities in the African context focusing on the dynamic relationship between copyright and informal sector activities.His Doctoral Research explores way traditional musicians as innovative members of traditional societies construct ownership in the contemporary settings.
Dick is a founding member of the African Access to Knowledge Alliance - AAKA. AAKA aims at promoting widespread access to information and knowledge for education, research, training, and library services thought open access/content models as well as constructive engagement of providers of propriety/protected resources.
