New MLIS Student Orientation Spring 2014

Welcome to the MLIS program! We invite you to attend the SOIS Orientation & Welcome Program - designed to give you a jump start on success. Please join us and meet faculty, staff and advisors. Get a personalized campus tour from current students. Learn about the student organization and become a part of the graduate community of students.

Students will not be able to pick up their student ID (PantherCard) while on campus as the office is closed on Saturdays. If students would like to arrive on campus early, on Friday the day before Orientation, please bring $10 (cash, check, or charge) for the processing fee. PantherCards are issued in the Enrollment Information Center, located in Mellencamp Hall 274 between 10am-2pm on Friday. Online students who are unable to attend Orientation in person may apply for their student ID on the PantherCard's website: https://www4.uwm.edu/current_students/records_grades/onlinecards.cfm.

If you can not attend the orientation in person, you can watch it live by going to http://www4.uwm.edu/sois/live/. You will also be able to type questions for the speakers into a chat box and we will answer them for you. All of the handouts and presentations will be available online below. If you are unable to attend in person or be online for the entire live stream, the videos will be archived for you to access on the SOIS website after class begins. Watch your email and our website for a direct link to the archives soon.

Travel and 2 nights lodging reimbursement is available for students (50 miles outside of the greater Milwaukee area).

Travel Reimbursement for Students (over 50 miles away)

  • 2 nights lodging in Milwaukee county - up to $80.00 per night
    • There are many options available for lodging but please keep in mind that we have guest housing at our own Kenilworth apartments available as well.
  • Airfare: Maximum $500 domestic / $1000 international (Limit of ONE round trip airline ticket)
  • Or mileage: up to $500.00

To take advantage of this offer, you must be a SOIS student attending the New MLIS Orientation. If you are asking for reimbursement, you will receive your travel packet upon arrival. All forms and receipts must be postmarked February 1st, 2014.
