Welcome to the MLIS program! We invite you to attend the SOIS Orientation & Welcome Program. Please join us and meet faculty, staff and advisors. Get a personalized campus tour from current students. Learn the ins and outs of the MLIS program including degree options and proficiency requirements!

Students will not be able to pick up their student ID (PantherCard) while on campus as the office is closed on Saturdays. If students would like to arrive on campus early, on Friday the day before Orientation, please bring $10 (cash, check, or charge) for the processing fee. PantherCards are issued in the Enrollment Information Center, located in Mellencamp Hall 274 between 10am-2pm on Fridays. Online students who are unable to attend Orientation in person may apply for their student ID on the PantherCard's website: https://www4.uwm.edu/current_students/records_grades/onlinecards.cfm.

Live Stream

If you can not attend the orientation in person, you can watch it live by going to http://www4.uwm.edu/sois/live/.You will also be able to type questions for the speakers into a chat box and we will answer them for you. If you are unable to attend in person or be online for the entire live stream, the videos will be archived for you to access on the SOIS website after class begins. Watch your email and our website for a direct link to the archives soon.


Free parking will be available in the UWM Union upon exit with a parking pass. The parking pass will be available for pick up when you register onsite for the orientation. There is also metered parking.

Travel Reimbursement for Students (over 100 miles roundtrip)

  • Up to 2 nights lodging: Maximum $80 per night
  • Airfare or mileage reimbursement for driving: Maximum $500 domestic / $1,000 international (Limit of ONE airline ticket per student)

In order to receive reimbursement, all flights need to be booked through Fox World Travel (1-866-230-8787) agency and mention that you are a student traveling to UW Milwaukee for a SOIS event.


To take advantage of this offer, you must be a SOIS student attending the New Student MLIS Orientation. You must be traveling over 100 miles roundtrip. You will be able to pick up your reimbursement package at the registration table. All forms and receipts must be postmarked or scanned and emailed by September 10th 2014.
