Welcome to the MLIS program! We invite you to attend the SOIS Orientation & Welcome Program. Please join us and meet faculty, staff and advisors. Get a personalized campus tour from current students. Learn the ins and outs of the MLIS program including degree options and proficiency requirements!

Breakfast and Lunch will be served

Students will not be able to pick up their student ID (PantherCard) while on campus as the office is closed on Saturdays. If students would like to arrive on campus early, on Friday the day before Orientation, please bring $10 (cash, check, or charge) for the processing fee. PantherCards are issued in the Enrollment Information Center, located in Mellencamp Hall 274 between 10am-2pm on Fridays. Online students who are unable to attend Orientation in person may apply for their student ID on the PantherCard's website: https://www4.uwm.edu/current_students/records_grades/onlinecards.cfm.

Live Stream

If you can not attend the orientation in person, you can watch it live by going to http://www4.uwm.edu/sois/live/.You will also be able to type questions for the speakers into a chat box and we will answer them for you. All of the handouts and presentations will be available online below. If you are unable to attend in person or be online for the entire live stream, the videos will be archived for you to access on the SOIS website after class begins. Free parking is available in the UWM Union (a pass to get out at the end of the day will be given to you when you register onsite for the orientation event.) or there is meter parking available outside of the Northwest Quadrant building.

Travel Reimbursement and 2 night lodging reimbursement is available for distance education students (50 miles outside of the greater Milwaukee area).

  • Airfare: Maximum $500 domestic/$1000 international (Limit of ONE airline ticket)

To take advantage of this offer, you must be a SOIS student attending the New Student MLIS Orientation. You must let us know that you are asking for reimbursement by August 14th 2013. All forms and receipts must be postmarked or scanned and emailed by September 10th 2013.

All receipts and forms can be scanned and emailed with the subject MLIS New Student Orientation Reimbursement to Laura Meyer at Lauram@uwm.edu or fax to 414-229-6699 attn: Laura Meyer. Students will also receive a pre-paid envelope for documents the day of the orientation. Reimbursement will be issued 4-6 weeks after all required documentation is received.
