SOIS Student Research Conference

Call for Paper & Poster Proposals
April 19, 2013 | Milwaukee, WI

This is the first annual SOIS Student Research Conference. The 2013 conference committee seeks student proposals for the event. Students are invited to submit paper proposals based on their research papers, critical literature surveys or design research projects. Students may also submit poster proposals to share current works in progress. All proposals should be related to issues within the field of library and information studies. Student submissions can be unpublished or published. There are no restrictions on research methodology.

Deadline for proposal submission: February 15, 2013
Notification of acceptance: March 1, 2013

Eligibility
Currently enrolled BSIST, MLIS and PHD students may submit proposals. Online and onsite students may submit proposals.

Paper Proposals
Students should submit the following information for paper presentations:

  • Title of project/paper
  • Contact information for authors
  • Affiliation with SOIS
  • Structured abstract (1000 words maximum)

The structured abstract (1000 words maximum) should use the following headings:

  • Objective of project/paper
  • Background (A very brief sample of relevant literature in the area)
  • Methods (How the project/study was conducted)
  • Initial findings (Main findings from the study/project)
  • Conclusions
  • References

Poster Proposals
Students should submit the following information for poster presentations.

  • Title of project
  • Contact information for authors
  • Affiliation with SOIS
  • Brief abstract for the project (250 words maximum)

The brief abstract (250 words maximum) should use the following headings:

  • Purpose of project
  • Needs assessment (Describe how the project addresses a current issue)
  • Methods (Provide insight into the project design)
  • Current state of the project

Travel Support for Domestic Students
The authors of accepted papers and posters will be notified by March 1, 2013. SOIS will pay transportation and hotel costs for online students with accepted papers/posters.

Travel Support for International Students
The authors of accepted papers and posters will be notified by March 1, 2013. SOIS will pay hotel costs for online students with accepted papers/posters. SOIS will also pay a maximum of $500 toward transportation costs.

Awards
A best paper and poster award will be determined for BSIST, MLIS and PHD submissions.
