SOIS and the Wisconsin Center for the Book are collaborating in an opportunity for up to 20 students to experience the National Book Festival, sponsored by the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress. The focus of the experience will be attendance at the National Book Festival (Sept. 21-22) on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Shana Ponelis has been appointed Assistant Professor in the School of Information Studies (SOIS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) where she is teaching and expanding research she began while earning a PhD in information technology from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Hope Olson, professor in the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee’s School of Information Studies, has been selected as the 2013 winner of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Women and Gender Studies Section (WGSS) Career Achievement Award. The award honors significant long-standing contributions to women’s studies in the field of librarianship over the course of a career.

In his book Resistance is Fertile, published in April 2013 by University of British Columbia Press, Dr. Wilhelm Peekhaus develops a critical political economic analysis of agricultural biotechnology in Canada that situates empirically and theoretically some of the ways in which both biotechnological information and materiality have been insinuated in the trajectory of contemporary capitalist social relations.
