Fall Welcome Information for Faculty/Staff

Overview of Fall Welcome
Beginning on Tuesday, August 28th we will welcome nearly 5,000 new students to our community and welcome back over 24,000 continuing students. For new students, this is an exciting (and scary) time in their lives. For UWM, it is our opportunity to “Roll Out the Gold Carpet” by welcoming our newest students to campus!
The Fall Welcome Team has been working since early spring to develop a message (P.R.I.D.E.) and program that will help students transition successfully – academically and socially - into their first year on campus. We are excited to invite the entire campus community to join the party by learning about the initiative, getting involved, and volunteering your time and talent. We need your help to ensure Fall Welcome is a success!

What is Panther P.R.I.D.E.?
P.R.I.D.E. is the acronym for our new student success message. P.R.I.D.E. was introduced to students and families at New Student Orientation and will guide Fall Welcome and other campus initiatives in the coming years as we focus our energies on research-based efforts to help students succeed at UWM.
P.R.I.D.E. stands for:
Prioritize academic success
Reach out!
Involve yourself
Develop a plan
Explore Milwaukee and beyond

Call for Volunteers
Research tells us that students that build positive relationships with staff and faculty are more likely to have higher GPAs, to stay in school, and to graduate. This is why we need you, your friends, and colleagues to volunteer and connect with students by being fantastic. Fall Welcome is our opportunity to have fun and show off all that UWM has to offer.
Unsure what opportunities exist to volunteer at?
Begin by reviewing the Fall Welcome schedule and see what fits your schedule, your other responsibilities, and what looks like fun. There are dozens of opportunities from staffing the luau, to answering questions at an “ask me booth”, to chaperoning boat tours of Milwaukee and everything in between. We know many of you are busy this time of year and hope that being a Fall Welcome volunteer an opportunity to step away from your work and do something a bit different and fun while meeting some new students and colleagues.
