First Year Student Success

Visit: The Student Success Center - Located in Bolton 120, the Student Success Center is the one stop where you can find all the information about valuable resources on campus. The Student Success Center is dedicated to creating opportunities for all UW-Milwaukee first-year, transfer and returning adult students and families to successfully transition into an inclusive and vibrant community. The SSC places a high value on connections with other students, faculty and staff to enhance each student's personal and academic success. The SSC will also lead efforts to create a campus climate in which students persist to the second year and on to graduation. Visit the Event Calendar link to find out more about our programs offered during the academic school year.
Talk: Mentoring - The Student Success Center is also home to the Orientation Leaders, First Year Mentors and Student Success Advocates, who during the academic year, will meet one-on-one and maintain communication with their students, and assist in the development of targeted first-year and transfer/adult student programming. Orientation Leaders & Mentors are Campus Ambassadors here at UWM. Cick here to Meet the 2012-2013 UWM First Year Center Campus Ambassadors & Mentors.
Enroll: Living Learning Communities – An LLC is a small group of students with a common interest that live on the same floor and take at least one class together. They are assigned and RA and a Mentor typically with the same major or interest. This is a great opportunity to meet first year students. Join an LLC today!
Explore: Involvement – Is an important aspect of the UWM experience. There are a number of ways to get involved on campus. A first year student can get involved by attending campus programs, athletic events, participating in club sports, or by joining one of our over 300 campus clubs and organizations. Student employment is also a great way to get involved on campus. Click on involvement or check out our Student Success Resources to learn more about getting involved.
