Our Mission Statement
The mission of the
Black Student Union is to support UW-Milwaukee students with a targeted
focus on students of African descent academically, socially and
culturally, through programming and networking.
Our Commitment
The Black Student
Union is committed to creating a nurturing environment for students of
African descent on the UW-Milwaukee campus. BSU aims to create a
positive cultural presence on campus that will provide role models for
fellow African-American students in the University, as well as in the
City of Milwaukee community.
Our Objectives

Provide a support system to
all African American students in the UWM campus and community

Provide public service
throughout the university, as well as the City of Milwaukee community

to the UWM community

Provide the UWM community
with a better understanding of African-American culture through
enhanced educational programs and services
History
Black Student Union at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was
re-established in November of 2001, but has held a powerful presence on
the UW-Milwaukee campus since 1968. BSU became an officially
incorporated non-profit organization of the State of Wisconsin in 2005.
For over 42 years, BSU has addressed the needs of African American
students, provided service to the Black community, maintained a
positive environment for a both new and returning UW-Milwaukee
students, and has worked with other organizations to open doors for
society.
