Honored Alumni, Family, Friends and Supporters!
The Lady Panther Rugby Football Club has turned 25! That's right! Founded in 1982 by Anne Hogan, Lisa Buth (Melzer), Kathleen Romfroe (Nielsen) and Pat "Sharpo" Sharpe, the Lady Panther Rugby Football Club has hit the quarter-century mark! So, in light of this momentous occasion, our parents kicked us out of the house, and told us to get a haircut and get a real job.
No, actually, we're throwing a celebration party!
On Saturday, April 28th, 2007 (just in time to cash your tax refund check) we are holding our first-ever Alumni Match! If available, we will host the match at the old Gun Club Pitch (provided the County Parks grant us access) with a kick-off time of 11:00 a.m. So all Alumni - new and vintage - are invited to attend the match, dust off their cleats, and show the undergraduates what the tradition of this team means to you!!!
For the Alumni who are already registered, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE forward this on to any Alumni you may know who are not on this list (or have them send an email to the Director of Alumni Relations, Mara Wellner - lprfc-alumniassn@uwm.edu)!!! We'd love nothing more than a HUGE turnout to show some Panther Pride!!! Now, for those Alumni who are recent additions to this list, I'd like to take a moment to give you a brief update on your legacy - the undergraduate side!
We will also offer a special Commemorative Alumni Jersey with a special Commemorative Alumni Crest for all interested Alumni. Pricing has not yet been finalized, but we expect the jerseys to run $50 to $75. The jerseys are custom order per individual. Use our ORDER FORM to select your size, number and your the name you would like to have stitched on the back! Please order before March 15th, 2007, because it will take a while to have these jerseys created. If you have any other questions, please contact the Director of Alumni Relations, Mara Wellner, at lprfc-alumniassn@uwm.edu. We hope that you will be pleased with our design!
Over the last few years, the Lady Panthers have been building and maturing to become a tried and true team! Remember back in your rugby days how important your friendships with teammates were, and all the crazy times you had together? Well, these girls have carried on the tradition of TEAM - a tradition that was forged by the Alumni! I can honestly say that I am both humbled and amazed by how much these girls care for one-another!
The Lady Panthers have been raising their level of play steadily throughout the years, and are on the brink of becoming a Division I side. This last fall, the Lady Panthers were undefeated Wisconsin RFU Eastern Conference Champions! And among these, one (well, two, actually) of those victories was our first ever (to my knowledge) win against cross-town rival Marquette University! The Lady Panthers fell short in defense of their 2005 State Championship Title, with a narrow loss to UW-Stevens Point 7-5. The girls went into the Midwest Division II playoffs, and finished in 9th place, earning the right to challenge into Division I Pool Play!
So, Our Alumni Match is not only a fun opportunity for the undergraduates to meet and learn from and about their Alumni....It is a preparation for their Division I challenge-in!!!
After the Match, the presence of all Alumni and Undergraduates is requested at the Y-Not 3 Tavern (1854 E Kenilworth Pl, Milwaukee, WI 53202) for the Lady Panther Alumni Reunion and Fundraiser! There will be a short presentation about the newly created non-profit organization - "The Lady Panther Women's Rugby Foundation at UW-Milwaukee." We would then like to briefly confirm a later date to meet and elect the first ever Alumni Board of Directors! Food and beverage will be served, and all friends and family are welcome to attend!
After everyone has had a chance to relax a bit, the undergraduates will auction off a set of Jerseys as well! Any contributions the Alumni, Friends and Family of the Lady Panther RFC would care to make to support the team would be greatly appreciated! These contributions, including the raffle, will be fully tax deductible.
The undergraduates are EXTREMELY excited to meet their Alumni. For many of these girls, they don't know those who walked this path before them. They don't know the tradition, the blood, the sweat and the tears that have come before, and brought them to where they are today!
