Spring 2009 Updates

The Challenge Update

Omar Mehtab recently completed his match vs. Ken Lee and won. This puts Omar into an amazing three-way tie for 2nd Place in the club. The three players locked in second all have 8-2 records. Omar has beat Chris who has beat Barry who has beat Omar. What an awesome showdown this will be....Stay tuned!

TIME: 2:00pm
PLACE: UWM Union Rec Center

What a day! The club's first members' tourney and the weather was perfect for pong. Thirty degrees, raining, even some thunder. The Challenge brought together 11 competitors from all across the campus and even drew out some old athletes, back home to the office. The Challenge was played in the "Modified Beck-Swiss Round Robin" format and the action was nuclear. Every player was tested in 10 grueling best 2 out of 3 matches.

In the end, it was Davis vs Goliath, Shai vs Barry. Each had 8 wins, 1 loss and it turned out to be a real battle of titans. In the first game, Shai Blasberg took it to overtime and came out ahead 13-11. The second game saw Barry Fies come back strong 12-10 to tie it up. The third game was one for the history books. An epic marathon with Shai going no holds barred, bringing in the head game, and finally edging out Barry 19-17. The players had previously agreed, to the delight of club members, to battle this one out 3 out 5. The rain continued to shower down outside and it was thundering and lightning inside. The fourth game had Shai delivering the final blow, winning 11-3 and bringing home the balls of gold with 9 wins, 1 loss.

Congratulations Shai Blasberg, and Congratulations to All the players that came out and made the first member tournament The Challenge it was. Special thanks to Ian Beck for making this a reality.
