The Grand Finale
The end of the semester. Fourteen players came together May 5th in the office for pizza and pong. It came in the form of a random draw single elimination no holds barred tournament. It was called The Grand Finale. There were some interesting draws and some excellent matches. Heartbreaking disappointment and triumphant victories. Laughter, pizza sauce moustaches, and open-toed shoes. What a tourney! Omar Mehtab battled some tough competition, beating Tuan Le in the semis to make it through the eastern bracket. The western bracket had newcomer Ryan "the Hustla" Baumgartner flip-flopping through Chris Baker in the semis to the finals. In the end there could be only one. On this day a new champion would emerge.
Tuan Le had close matches all night and he found himself facing an uphill fight against Chris Baker, legendary in the club for his consistent, rock solid play. Both players played great but this time Baker earned himself third place. The championship match was decided to play best three out of five. Omar took the early lead 2-0. The Hustla stayed alive in the third game to make it 2-1. Mehtab's unshakeable inner game gave him the edge as Baumgartner went on tilt when at times when losing critical points. Omar's solid game and superior footwear were keys for him to bring home the title 3-1. Congratulations Omar! The final results
