Parking Meters Defeated!

November 18, 2009

As you may be aware, the SA has been participating in a campaign to fight proposed parking meters along the lakefront and in our UPARK lots. The Milwaukee County Board voted against this proposal, but County Executive Scott Walker vetoed their decision.

We are pleased to report that this afternoon, the Milwaukee County Board voted to OVERRULE this veto and remove the parking meters from the budget once again. Thanks to all the students who called board members, distributed flyers, and appeared at County Board meetings. This campaign would not have been a success without your help.

Big Block of Cheese Day!

November 18, 2009

The Student Association held their first annual Big Block of Cheese Day, named after the day when Andrew Jackson shared 1400 lb of cheese with the public. This event was the result of SB0910-023, The Constituency Representation Act, passed at the October 20th Senate meeting.

New Shared Governance Committee!

November 16, 2009

At the SA Senate meeting on November 15, the Senate passed SB0910-033 and SB0910-034, creating the Council on Diversity and Equity as a standing committee. This was in direct response to the many comments received at President Burseth's fireside chat last week. Once President Burseth signs the bill, details on how to join the committee will be available on this page.
