SA President Kostal Resigns, New Reforms Begin

SA President Alex Kostal resigned his office at the SA Senate meeting last night amid allegations of misconduct. The SA continues its mission and has introduced new reforms to ensure future accountability.

UW-System Budget Lapse: UWM Set to Lose $8.8 Million Over Two Years

UWM is certain to lose over $8.8 Million in funding over the next two years under a proposed "budget lapse". This will affect our Univerity negatively and disproportionately, and we urge students to contact their legislators and ask them to take a stand against this plan.

Student Commission Building Better Relationships With UWM Neighbors

The SA hosted a roundtable meeting with representatives from various neighborhoods in the area surrounding campus. Those in attendance from the community included residents from Murray Hill, Cambridge Woods, and representatives of the Eastside Milwaukee Community Council (EMCC). The purpose of the meeting was to improve on and maintain a working relationship between the UWM student body and the non-student community.

Board of Regents Approves Student Life Improvements at UWM

Starting this semester, students at The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM) will enjoy refreshed student organization offices, expanded student life centers, and 700 spaces of free on-campus parking at the new Northwest Quadrant garage. The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents heard a presentation by student leaders at their July 15 meeting in Madison and approved the changes, which also include an expanded professional staff and a new Inclusive Excellence Center.

Chancellor Santiago Resigns, UWM Students Look To Future

UWM Athletics Broke and Still Spending Money

The UWM Athletics department has accumulated over $8 million in debt within the past few years and continues to maintain a structural deficit of over $1.5 million per year. With no end in sight, the debt is scheduled to rise to $10 million dollars at the end of this fiscal year. Additionally, the Department has announced that it will be sending 26 people to Italy for Basketball Training at a cost of $170,000.

After 30 Years, UWM Plans Implementation of Statute §36.09(5)

Student Association President Travis Romero-Boeck issued his first executive order on June 25th, 2010. The executive order creates a multi-branch commission to begin work on creating a comprehensive shared governance document.

New SAC Chairman Appointed

Congratulations to Senator Nick Kadulski, who was appointed as the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee on June 23rd, 2010.

UW 4-Year Colleges Reaction to 5.5% Tuition Increase

The UW Board of Regents voted on June 10, 2010 to approve a 5.5% tuition hike for the UW 4-year colleges. The tuition at 2-year colleges will remain at a freeze. The increate in tuition at the 4-year colleges will affect students beginning in fall 2010.

UWM Student Association Reacts to March 4 Demonstrations
