Campus WiFi
Wireless access is available in most campus public spaces including buildings off the main Kenwood campus (e.g., RiverView, Kenilworth and Cambridge Commons residential halls). Wireless service is not available in residence hall rooms. Each student living in a residence hall is provided with a port requiring an ethernet cable to access the campus network and Internet.
There are two wireless services on campus – PROWLnet and UWM WiFi.
PROWLnet is available in most campus public spaces except the Union, the Golda Meir Library, and select buildings (where UWM WiFi is the wireless service). See UWM WiFi availability
Most devices will automatically connect to PROWLnet when you are in a building with PROWLnet service.
To get help to access PROWLnet, visit the Walk-in Help Desk in Bolton 225, Mon.-Thurs., 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
UWM WiFi is a secure, fast and reliable wireless service replacing PROWLnet throughout the campus. It is currently the wireless service in the Union, the Golda Meir Library, Bolton Hall, Lapham Hall, Lubar Hall, Engineering & Mathematical Sciences and Zilber School of Public Health, with planned expansion underway throughout campus.
UWM WiFi offers four service options:
- UWM WiFi authenticated access—High speed, secure wireless network access for UWM faculty, staff and students
- Sponsored Guest—Secure high speed wireless Web access for sponsored guests
- Public—Unsecured one-hour (renewable) limited bandwidth Web access for the general public
- eduroam—Secure worldwide federated network access to local wireless service at participating eduroam institutions.
IMPORTANT: All UWM students, faculty and staff should use the UWMWiFi option as it is secure and reliable. This requires device set-up.
Visit UWMWiFi.uwm.edu for additional information and set-up instructions.
