UREC Outdoor Pursuits is dedicated to providing programs and equipment which promote challenging, educational, environmentally thoughtful and fun experiences for students with various interests and abilities.

The Outdoor Pursuits Center is located in the Klotsche Center & Pavilion room 131A.
Our programs and gear are CURRENTLY only for current enrolled UWM Students.

June 7
Horicon Marsh Kayaking

Enjoy a day of paddling through one of the largest freshwater marshes in the United States. It is home to 300 species of birds as well as turtles, foxes, fish and dragonflies. $45

June 12
Whitnall Park Full Moon Hike
 
We will have fun slacklining and playing as we watch the sun set. Then we will set off on a moonlit stroll around the lake and through the woods. This is a great opportunity to make new friends.$10

June 14
Devils Lake Climbing
Never climbed before? Climb in the gym but haven’t gotten on the real stuff yet? Come with us to the Midwest’s premiere climbing destination and cool down with a refreshing dip in the lake! $45

June 21 (Postponed to July 13)
Lapham Peak Hike and Picnic
Meet new people for this fun and casual nature walk. We will check out the view from the 45’ observation tower, walk through the butterfly garden and enjoy a picnic lunch.$20

June 28
Baraboo River Swiftwater Kayaking
This splishy-splashy section of the “Boo” is lots of fun. We will paddle through the town of Baraboo past Circus World. We may even see elephants bathing in the river if we’re lucky! This river is extra special as it has the longest section of river to be restored to free flowing due to dam removal. Hurray! $45

July 12-Saturday Early Evening
Stand Up Paddleboarding: Atwater Park to Bradford Beach
Beginner and intermediate SUPers will enjoy a golden hour paddle along the coast of Lake Michigan.

July 18-20-Friday Afternoon through Sunday Afternoon
Devils Lake Multisport Weekend: Climb and Paddle
This is a weekend for exciting challenge and summery relaxation. We will climb, paddle, play lawn games, cook great food and enjoy friends and music around the fire!

This splishy-splashy section of the “Boo” is lots of fun. We will paddle through the town of Baraboo past Circus World. We may even see elephants bathing in the river if we’re lucky! August 2-Saturday Early Evening

Lulu Lake Paddle & Dinner at Eagle Spring Pub
The Nature Conservancy selected Lulu Lake as “one of Wisconsin’s highest quality natural areas”. We will take advantage of the tranquil atmosphere on this 95 acre kettle lake and end the day at Eagle Spring Pub for dinner. $30

 

August 18-21
Flambeau River Kayaking Trip-August 18-21
The North Fork of the Flambeau River boasts class I-III rapids and promises a lot of fun along the way. We will spend 4 days and 3 nights on the river navigating everything from flat water to fun rapids. This is the perfect trip for those with an adventurous spirit looking to end their summer with an unforgettable trip in Northern Wisconsin and make some great friends along the way.
