Animal Users

  • Orientation with Veterinarian/Lab Manager
  • Pass certification exam
  • Bio-methodology training
  • ARC facilities training if appropriate
  • Hands-on training if appropriate
  • Documentation of proficiency in PI training log
  • Annual continuing education

Visitors who will handle animals

  • Orientation with Veterinarian/Lab Manager
  • Proof of training from another Institution within past 5 years or go through steps listed above
  • ARC facilities training if appropriate
  • Annual continuing education

Visitors who will not handle animals (or will work under direct supervision of a certified animal user)

  • If here for greater than 30 days, the training is the same as listed above for visitors who will handle animals

Students who come into contact with animals as part of instructional activities

Non-UWM Personnel who teach Field Courses or conduct observational field studies on UWM property
