Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the educational records of UWM students by limiting the individuals who have access to such records and the purposes for which they can be used. Researchers wishing to use student data for research purposes must either:
(a) Obtain written consent (which can be integrated with the informed consent document) from the student and specify (1) the records to be released; (2) the Identify the party or class of parties to whom the records should be released to; (3) the reason for the release.
