I am currently serving as the Assistant Director for Recruitment and Community Relations with the Department of Admissions and Recruitment. Prior to my work in Admissions and Recruitment, I worked as a Senior Advisor for the College of Health Sciences and as an academic advisor in the Pre-College programs. In my 14 year career at UWM I have worked with hundreds of students and their families, helping them prepare for post-secondary admission, select their courses and eventually graduate from college.

I began my post-secondary education at the University of Puerto Rico where I was admitted on a full scholarship for Track and Field, but then transferred later to the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where I graduated with a bachelor’s of Fine Arts and masters in Educational Policy.

If you are interested in any of our academic programs, would like to visit us, or need to speak to someone about how to apply, do not hesitate to contact me at donpepe@uwm.edu or 414-229-1169. I hope to hear from you soon! Don’t procrastinate, contact me and give yourself the opportunity explore exciting new careers and build your future.

I have been with UW-Milwaukee for 15 years and with the Department of Admissions and Recruitment since 2001.  I am originally from Holmen, WI and graduated from UWM with a degree in Communication and also Photography. I chose to come to Milwaukee because the city offers so many opportunities, the campus has great academic programs, and the East Side is beautiful with many parks and Lake Michigan is not far from campus. There are so many things to do in the area and on campus! I hope I can help introduce you to this great university and the city of Milwaukee.

I work with students from Waukesha, Washington, Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Manitowoc and Calumet counties.  I am available to answer questions, chat about UWM or learn more about the programs we offer.  The best way to reach me is tawney@uwm.edu or 414-229-4624. Best of luck in your college search, I hope to hear from you soon!

I have been a recruiter with the Department of Admissions and Recruitment at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee for about a year. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services and a Master’s in Education. I serve as a youth mentor in the local community so I am constantly speaking with prospective students and their families even when I’m “off duty,” and I welcome the opportunity to get to know you too!

I visit the south suburbs of Milwaukee, and the following counties: Dane, Fond du Lac, Winnebago, Outagamie, Dodge, Columbia, Green Lake, Marquette, Waushara, Adams, Sauk and Juneau. If you have any questions, I’m here to help. I can be reached at johnsowp@uwm.edu or 414-229-4082. Hopefully we can meet soon.

Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan

I have been with UW-Milwaukee for 2 years and with the Department of Admissions and Recruitment since July 2011. I like working at UWM because I am a former UWM student and lifelong Milwaukee resident.

Working as an Admissions Advisor I travel to the northern parts of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. To reach out to interested high school and transfer students, I attend college fairs, visit high schools, meet with families and facilitate on campus events. The best way to reach me is by phone or email at 414-229-3854 or hallora5@uwm.edu. For anyone going through the college search process, just remember: it’s OK to be undecided and Milwaukee is a great city in which to live and learn!

City of Milwaukee

I’m a Senior Advisor in the Department of Admissions and Recruitment. I have worked for UWM for a long time, since 1981---over 30 years. I have been working with incoming students all this time, and I have had special emphasis assisting students of color since 1987. If you go to school in the Greater Milwaukee area, Racine or Kenosha we are probably likely to cross paths.

UWM is a place which has many faces. On one side, it is a large doctoral campus (home to almost 30,000 students) so it is large enough for you to get lost in if you choose too, but it is personable enough to be able to provide you with the things you might need to help you be successful. I’m here to help you through the admission process, so reach out if you have any questions. I can be reached by phone at 414-229-6195 and by email at lcwjr@uw.edu.

Western Wisconsin, Minnesota and all other non-Midwest Student Exchange Program states

Greetings students and families! I have served as an Admission Representative with UW-Milwaukee since 2010. I graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from UW-La Crosse, but am originally from the Milwaukee area and absolutely love working here. I primarily work with students from Minnesota and western Wisconsin, but am happy to help all students and families through their college search and application process!

Something I like to emphasize to students is that as important as it is to find a university that is the best fit for you, it is equally important once you arrive on campus to get involved in clubs, organizations, study abroad, undergraduate research, internships, intramural sports, on-campus jobs, or whatever extracurricular option is right for you. As an Advisor for UWM’s chapter of Golden Key International Honor Society, I get to see all the benefits students gain by taking advantage of UWM’s many opportunities to learn outside the classroom as well as inside. Hopefully you can discover it for yourself in the near future! Feel free to get in touch with me at buhrand2@uwm.edu or 414-229-2222.

Illinois and all Midwest Student Exchange States (IN, KS, MI, MO, NE, ND)

I graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2008 and I have been with the Department of Admissions and Recruitment since 2010.   I travel to lower Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois, so you might see me at your high school or at a local college fair.  Feel free to get in touch with me for any questions you might have, I promise that I won’t bite!

I can be reached at kswetzig@uwm.edu or (414) 229-6899 and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Other than meeting with interested students, I am active on campus as an advisor to my college fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon. If you have questions, the only way to find the answer is to ask, which starts with you.

Transfer specialist, MATC campuses

I have been the UWM/MATC Transfer Specialist in the Department of Admissions and Recruitment since March 2011. Prior to this position, for 9 years, I worked as a Senior Academic Advisor in UWM Pre-College program called GEAR UP. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UW-Milwaukee and my Master of Science in Educational Counseling from Concordia University.

I am available to answer student questions about the transfer process, transferable credit, and planning the best classes at Milwaukee Area Technical College to eventually apply to a UW-Milwaukee degree. I thoroughly enjoy and am very dedicated to working with prospective students taking their next “educational step” from class choice options to the admission application process towards a Bachelor’s degree.

During the fall/spring terms I am at the MATC Downtown campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays (Thursdays only for the summer) and all other days at my UWM campus location. I also attend MATC Transfer Days during the fall and spring terms; set up individual advising sessions at the other 3 MATC campuses (Mequon, Oak Creek & West Allis) during the academic school year as well as other outreach activities. Feel free to contact me with questions regarding transferring from MATC to UWM. The best way to reach me is via email at csimms@uwm.edu or phone: MATC (414) 297-6295/UWM (414) 229-6019. Contact me today; it’s never too early to start the planning process!

Lisa Ori

Veterans Specialist

I have the unique opportunity to work with military and veteran students as part not only of the Department of Admissions and Recruitment but also as a part of the Military Education Benefits Office. That makes me a ONE-STOP-SHOP for all things military and veteran here at UWM – at least all things related to admissions and benefits! My background is also in Financial Aid so I can assist military and veterans in the regular financial aid process as well.

UWM is home to more military and veteran students than any other college or university in Wisconsin. There are some very amazing things happening on campus not the least of which is the construction of the new Military and Student Veterans’ Center in the Student Union. UWM is innovating both in the support and guidance of our military as well as in the creation of dedicated spaces, classes and professional staff positions! The Student Veterans Association is the largest and most active in the state and the camaraderie on campus is outstanding.

The best way to contact me is through email at ori@uwm.edu since I spend my days bouncing between two offices. You can call me at 414-229-2322 where I have voicemail or at 414-229-6627.

I look forward to serving you as you have served our country.

Milwaukee County and surrounding area

Hello all! I am a UWM alumnus, having earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from this great university! In the spring of 2010, I received my undergraduate diploma from the School of Education with a degree in Educational Studies, and in the fall of 2011 I received my master’s also from the School of Education, majoring in Administrative Leadership (focus on higher education). I am an admission representative with the Department of Admissions and Recruitment dating all the way back to July 30, 2012; I specifically work with the Wisconsin Covenant Students (both in high school, and those currently enrolled at UWM). I am out in local high schools educating students and counselors on everything that is the Wisconsin Covenant Promise and how students can remain eligible to receive their grant money! On campus, I am working to help students stay as involved and motivated as possible in their academics, community and future. I reach out to students through high school visits, coffee talks, mailings, emails and phone calls (pretty much whatever the situation calls for). I mainly stay in and around the Milwaukee County area when doing high school visits and outreach, as well as spend a lot of time on campus to stay as in-touch with current UWM Covenant Scholars as I can.

I chose UWM partly because of the location in a big city, and partly because I had a good number of friends who attended UWM. I think that is one great part about UWM, we really care about our Wisconsin high school students, and would love to see them stay in state to earn their degree! At the same time students who attend UWM get to see a great amount of diversity on campus and in the community as well as have great opportunities to work with some big time companies. Milwaukee is the 9 th ranked city in the country as far as Fortune 500 companies go, with 8 in the Milwaukee area; add that with the multitude of other companies (local and national), the lakefront access and the local professional sports teams, and there really never is a dull moment! I think Milwaukee is a great city, and I think UWM has a lot to do with that. I have been here as an undergraduate student, a graduate students and now a professional and would recommend any of those 3 experiences to anyone who asks. UWM and the people here on campus have done a lot to help me shape my career as well as personal beliefs; so please come take a visit of our campus and let us show you how UWM can possibly do the same for you!

Please, do not hesitate to contact me at any time. My phone number is 414.229.4090 and my email address is tjrufer@uwm.edu.

Southern Wisconsin, Door, Brown, and Kewaunee counties

I have been an Admission Representative at UW-Milwaukee since the summer of 2012. I graduated from UWM in 2011 with my Master’s in Administrative Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration. My territory is most of southern Wisconsin, in addition to Door, Brown, and Kewaunee counties! I enjoy meeting with students and their families during my high school visits, college fairs, and at coffee talks; however I’m happy to help whenever the opportunity arises. The city of Milwaukee and UWM are great places to be, so I encourage students to come visit the campus in order to really gain an understanding of who we are and all that we have to offer! Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have.
