Tsunami Relief Fund
Thanks to the generosity and support of students, faculty, and staff at UWM...
As of September 1, 2005, the AFSA Relief Fund has a total of: $3,209.94 *
The Tsunami Relief Coalition at UWM, through the leadership of Andrea Altmann (Center for Volunteerism & Student Leadership) and other students, decided to donate the Tsunami Relief Fund in the amount of $3,068.15 to CARE (see www.careusa.org). This decision was made after careful research by the Coalition members, who selected CARE as the most appropriate charity to receive this donation. The donation was made in May, 2005.
An additional $141.79 was contributed by UWM Union Operations in July 2005. This amount was donated to UWM Habitat for Humanity in August 2005, with the stipulation that the money is used to rebuild homes in areas that were affected by Tsunami.
About the AFSA (Asian Faculty and Staff Association) Relief Fund...
The AFSA Relief Fund was created in January 2005 to support the victims of Tsunami disaster. The account includes funds from donations and various campuswide fundraising activities, e.g., bracelet sales, tea sales, and a benefit concert (see below for specific information and dates). The money will be sent to one or a combination of four-star charities to be determined at a later date.
An appeal from the AFSA Co-Chairs...
Date: Tuesday, 25 January 2005
We are continuing the Tsunami relief effort at UWM to help the survivors rebuild their lives. In addition to the campus wide fundraising efforts (see http://www.uwm.edu/News/e-nnounce/05.01.03/tsunami_response.html for details on bracelet sales, tea sales, benefit concert, and teach-ins), we are asking for financial contributions to this very important endeavor.
Please consider a tax-deductible donation, in any amount, to the "AFSA Relief Fund." You can either send your contribution to Zhong-Ren Peng (AUP 340, x5887, firstname.lastname@example.org), Vanaja Menon (Library W117, x6456, email@example.com), Swarnjit Arora (Bolton 874C, x 6617, firstname.lastname@example.org), or Linda Huang (Mitchell 225, x5433, email@example.com), OR contact any of us to have your check picked up from your office. Please note that contributions made before the end of this month are still tax deductible for the Year 2004.
As part of the coordinated Tsunami relief effort at UWM, the money from the AFSA Relief Fund will be sent to one or a combination of the following relief agencies: AmeriCares, Action Against Hunger, American Red Cross. To help the Tsunami victims in a timely manner, we ask that you send us your donations preferably by February 15, 2005. Again, we are most happy to pick up your contribution at your convenience.
Any amount you wish to give to our relief fund is truly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for your support. Should you have any questions, please do no hesitate to contact us.
