No appointment is necessary for lab tests, but a Norris Health Center medical provider must order the tests.

Norris Health Center laboratory provides meaningful test information to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of Health Service patients. Testing is performed by qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists, who all have received a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology.

The medical laboratory at NHC has met all criteria for the Laboratory Accreditation by COLA, a national healthcare accreditation organization. Accreditation is given only to laboratories that apply rigid standards of quality in day-to-day operations and pass a rigorous on-site survey. NHC has earned COLA accreditation as a result of a long term commitment to provide quality service to UWM students.

The NHC laboratory processes about 13,000 tests annually, 8,800 of these tests are performed in-house with results being conveyed to the medical provider during the visit. Approximately 4,300 tests are sent out to an accredited reference laboratory with results available within a week.
