Alpha Retirement

j0439359UWM's legacy Alpha Computing Environment, also known as the "Alphas", is being retired. The Alpha Computing Environment has served the campus for many years in various capacities, including: email, file storage and web site hosting. In recent years these functions have been subsumed by other services, such as PantherLink, PantherFile and the Content Management System.

In coordination with the faculty, staff and students affected we have established the following timeline for the retirement of these services on the Alpha Computing Environment:

Web site hosting — Thursday, October 15, 2009
File storage — Thursday, October 15, 2009
General access — Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Shut down — Thursday, December 10, 2009

As the migration plans are formalized and completed for other services that the Alpha Computing Environment provides, this site will be updated, so please check back often.

On Thursday, December 10 at 11:00 a.m., the servers: alpha1, alpha2, alpha3, batch1, batch2 and batch3 have been shut down.
