This 30-hour certificate program meets the State of Wisconsin education requirements for licensure as a clinical supervisor of substance abuse counselors. It is useful for all therapists and counselors who provide clinical supervision.

The training emphasizes practical application of the outcome literature and best practices in clinical supervision. Participants will learn the requirements for the clinical supervisor, understand assessment and evaluation of the developing therapist, and explore the methods and techniques of clinical supervision. Explore issues related to management and administration, and understand the ethics and boundaries issues unique to clinical supervision.


This training will provide the necessary education to apply for the Intermediate Clinical Supervisor license.  See below, copied from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services site.

1. Must hold current certification as a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor


as a Professional Counselor, Marraige and Family Therapist or Social Worker holding a credential under ch. 457, Stats., with the specialty authorization of s. MPSW 1.09.

2. Verification of 30 hours of classroom training in clinical supervision. This shall include a minimum of 6 hours of training in each of the following domains:

Assessment or evaluation

Counselor development

Management or administration

Professional responsibility
