Search and Screen Committee for the UWM Chancellor

The search and screen committee for the UWM chancellor will be appointed in accordance with Regent Resolution #4034, Document 88-2.

The System President shall appoint a Search and Screen Committee, the majority of which shall be faculty, comprised of:

(1) Faculty selected after consultation with appropriate faculty representatives;

(2) Academic Staff selected after consultation with appropriate academic staff representatives;

(3) Students selected by the recognized institutional student government, or in the absence of one, at the discretion of the UW System President.

(4) Administrators representing institutions and the System Administration;

(5) At the option of the System President, one community representative; and

(6) A Chairperson appointed from among the faculty members of the Committee.

The Search and Screen Committee will be provided with the job description prepared by the System President and the Special Regent Committee. Interviews of candidates will be within the discretion of the Search and Screen Committee.

Search and Screen Committees for Other Major Administrative Positions

Search and screen committees will be appointed by and report to the chancellor. The number and composition of each committee will be determined by the chancellor. In the case of academic administrators (i.e., the vice chancellor for academic affairs, deans, and the director of the library), such determination will be made in consultation with the University Committee, as specified in Section 6.05, UWM Policies and Procedures.

Unless specified otherwise herein, student members will be appointed by the Student Association, academic staff members will be selected from nominees submitted to the chancellor by the Academic Staff Committee, and faculty members will be selected from nominees obtained in accordance with Section 6.05 of the UWM Policies and Procedures, and submitted by the University Committee.

Each committee will include at least one student member, one academic staff member, and one member of the University Committee designated by the University Committee.

In the case of academic administrators, the search and screen committee will comprise a majority of faculty members and will be chaired by a faculty member selected by the chancellor from nominees submitted by the University Committee.

In the case of academic deans, the committee will comprise a majority of members from the hiring school, college or unit; however, the faculty chairperson and the University Committee representative will be from outside the hiring school, college or unit.

Members of the search and screen committee shall be committed to UWM's policies for providing equal employment opportunities.
