Early Childhood Research Center

The Center, located on the UWM campus in Enderis 239, was established in 1995 by a core group of faculty from UWM who believed that the current issues of research and practice in early childhood related fields demand an interdisciplinary perspective.

The central function of the ECRC is to provide a formal organizational structure to support sustained interdisciplinary collaboration among UWM faculty and other professionals whose work focuses on young children and their families.

Mission
The Early Childhood Research Center is dedicated to advancing the welfare of young children and their families in urban settings through research and the exchange of knowledge. Interdisciplinary collaboration and university-community partnerships are valued as essential to the accomplishment of the mission.

About the Center

The purpose of the Early Childhood Research Center is to promote and conduct interdisciplinary research on issues related to the development, care, and education of young children from birth through eight years of age, and their families. Emphasis is placed on the study of early childhood issues for the full range of children in urban settings, including those with disabilities.

This exchange of knowledge takes place through a range of channels, including:

• Grant development to support research and personnel preparation
• Collaboration in the development of early childhood policies, programs, and services
• Consultation with policymakers and practicing professionals
• Innovative professional development offerings for professionals from fields serving young children and their families

It is through these efforts and initiatives that we are able to fulfill our mission
