Undergraduate Scholarships & Aid

SOIS proudly offers funding opportunities awarded for academic achievement to students entering or enrolled in the Information Science & Technology (IST) program. Award recipients are notified prior to or during the semester the award is granted via UWM email and/or letter mailed to the address listed in PAWS.

Dean's Diversity Student Scholarship

Deadline: February 1 for following academic year

Award Amount: $1,000 Award, Non-Renewable; subject to availability of funds

Eligibility Criteria: New transfer students enrolling in the IST Program starting in the Spring, Summer or Fall Semesters are eligible. The student must declare IST as a major and must be enrolled in an IST course the semester the award is granted, (3cr minimum required). Consistent with the mission and goals of SOIS, the Dean's Diversity Scholarship is designed to assist students of underrepresented groups in higher education. Award Issued: Fall & Spring Semesters 

To Apply: Submit completed Application for Undergraduate SOIS Scholarship *only one application needed for the Dean's Diversity Scholarship, SOIS Undergraduate Diversity Scholarship and SOIS Undergraduate Scholarship.

SOIS Undergraduate Diversity Scholarship

Deadline: February 1 for following academic year

Award Amount: $1,000 Award, Non-Renewable; subject to availability of funds

Eligibility Criteria: Full or part-time undergraduate students, declared IST major. Consistent with the mission and goals of SOIS, the Diversity Scholarship is designed to assist students of underrepresented groups in higher education. Stipulations: Recipients must be registered for a minimum of at least 3 L&I SCI credits during the semester the award is granted.

SOIS Undergraduate Scholarship

Deadline: February 1 for following academic year

Award Amount: $750 Award, Non-Renewable; subject to availability of funds

Eligibility Criteria: Full or part-time undergraduate students, declared IST major.

Stipulations: Recipients must be registered for a minimum of at least 3 L&I SCI credits during the semester the award is granted.

Award Issued: For Fall semester tuition

No Application Needed for the following Scholarships

No application is necessary for the following awards. All students entering or currently enrolled in the IST program who meet the eligibility criteria will be considered for these awards. Students admitted to and registered for courses in the School of Information Studies by the early deadline of the desired term of admission (June 1 for Fall, December 1 for Spring) receive first consideration for the awards listed below.

Attitude & Aptitude Scholarship

Award Amount: $500 Non-Renewable

Eligibility Criteria: Current IST student, must be declared major and must be enrolled in an IST course the semester the award is granted (3 cr minimum required).

Award Issued: Fall & Spring Semesters

No application necessary - consideration is based on student achievement and merit in the IST program.

Dean's IST Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,000 Non-Renewable

Eligibility Criteria: High school senior enrolling full-time during the fall semester in IST program. It is recommended that students apply for admission to UWM no later than November 1 in order to be considered for this award. The student must be enrolled in an IST course the semester the award is granted, (3cr minimum required).

Award Issued: Fall Semester

No application necessary - consideration is based on outstanding ACT/SAT score, rank, and GPA.

Dean's Transfer Student Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,000 Award, Non-Renewable

Eligibility Criteria: New transfer students enrolling in the IST Program starting in the Fall, Spring or Summer Semesters are eligible. The student must declare IST as a major and must be enrolled in an IST course the semester the award is granted, (3cr minimum required). Consideration is based on the student’s most recent academic achievement.

Award Issued: Fall (for Summer and Fall students) & Spring Semesters

No application necessary - consideration is based on the student’s most recent academic achievement.

SOIS New Freshmen Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,000 Non-Renewable

Eligibility Criteria: High school senior enrolling full-time during the fall semester in the IST program. The student must be enrolled in IST course the semester the award is granted, (3cr minimum required).

Award Issued: Fall Semester

No application necessary - consideration is based on outstanding ACT/SAT score, rank, and GPA.

Additional funding opportunities may be available from sources outside of the School of Information Studies.
