Congratulations on the achievements that have led you to this step in your journey toward joining the Panther family. New Student Orientation marks your entrance into the UWM community. This required program will introduce you to the UWM campus, as well as to other new students and families. New Student Orientation is intended for both students and parents. New Student Orientation is one of the many steps you will take towards establishing a successful college career. We look forward to meeting you and assisting you in your journey at UWM.

The Purpose:

As a result of involvement in the New Student Orientation Program students will:

  • Make a class schedule and enroll in classes
  • Be aware of the importance of getting involved and the methods for doing so at UWM
  • Understand what diversity means at UWM
  • Learn the importance of maintaining a successful student/advisor relationship
  • Identify the expectations that UWM faculty and staff have for successful students

What to Expect:

  • New Student Orientation is a two day program with an overnight component.
  • All students are required to be at the program for its entirety and to spend the night in the assigned residence hall —early departure cannot be accommodated.
  • You will learn about campus resources, receiving academic advising, and registering for classes.
  • Students gain a deeper understanding for UWM's traditions, socialize with other new students, and experience campus life.
